Dear TRAI,
The Internet is the defning technological advance of this generation.
It's creators initally conceived it to be an open network where human
knowledge can be easily accessed. We see the movements of the Arab
Spring where dictators were brought down due to the mobilising power
of the Internet.
We remember Raif Badawi who continues to be held in a Saudi Arabian
prison for writing a blog. It was the widespread condemnation that was
garnered through the effective use of the Internet that every week his
flogging is postponed, due to international pressure.
These are just two small ways in which the power of the Internet is
demonstrated in global politics.
Please ensure that Net Neutrality remains.
Once there is an established precedent of treating some traffic less
equal than others, there is potentially no end to the ways in which it
can be abused.
It is the egalitarianism of the Internet that has made it the special
place it is. Once we remove that we will see the hitherto unknown ugly
and dangerous effects of inequality permeate.
The job of the Government is to regulate, and I implore you to
regulate all these sorts of commericial forces that threaten to
violate one of the essential freedoms and values of the Internet.
The future of our country, and our children depends on it.
Respectfully,
Samuel Chase,
A Concerned Citizen
