Dear Sir/Ma'am,
The issue of net neutrality is at the end of the day an issue of access to information and data for the common citizens. The internet should be viewed not as a public good that allows the citizenry to access information, data and indulge in a number of activities of their liking and choosing. The aspect of choice is extremely important because if we were to assume that the internet is a form of an information highway, it then becomes my choice to visit the sites that I want and to choose to do what I want as long as I pay for the internet access and not be forced to pay for individual sites or be forced by the ISPs to visit certain sites and not others based on their financial obligations.
Net neutrality has become a controversial issue across the globe, with most major jurisdictions such as the US and the EU having upheld net neutrality. The US has infact very recently upheld net neutrality through an FCC ruling that classified broadband as a common carrier.
In the interest of the common citizenry of India, it is necessary therefore to also classify the internet as a public good in India that allows free, fair and equal access for everybody. It is therefore necessary to uphold net neutrality.
