Hi Sir/Mam,

I just want to say that according to the TRAI paper[1] on page 34, point number 2.54 it says that global losses to telecoms due to 'lost' revenue of voice call etc will be $479 billion but that the profit to them from data will be $2.4 trillion, that's $2 trillion dollars of profit, after adjusting for their paltry losses.

I hate how you even call them OTT or Over The Top services. They say it's because those services run on top of infrastructure of the telcos but it kinda gives the impression like they're something extra. The name should also reflect that those services are the entire reason why anybody bothers to pay for internet at all nobody gets a 3G pack to just stare at 3 on their handset. They get it to use the over the top services.

2.60 propose deep packet inspection, an invasive technique that will necessarily have them monitor everything to check which sites you're going to. So say goodbye to privacy.

2.50 claims growth in 4G will result in ten times more subscribers to Indian telcos in 5 years.

2.12 claims skype calls are loss of revenue but at 10paise/10 kb and the skype min data for a voice call at 30kbps, that's 60kbps to upload your voice and download the other's.

That's 450Kb per minute which means 4.5 rs/minute in data charges. This is the skype lost revenue they're whining about the greedy bastards.

Talk about how you would react if these service charges are placed. It will not earn telcos any extra money, it will just reduce the 83% percent of Indian users whose only access to the internet is through mobile. Since rural areas are soon to be connected, this will disproportionately affect the common man net user, who uses the internet only through his phone.

As a common Indian citizen who just got his first job which will pay me only Rs. 15000/month. I also have to manage my transport, food and living costs and on top of that you expect me to somehow scrape extra 1000 rupees out of my income so that I can access the information available on the internet. Consider about the rural areas where people doesn't even earn half my income. How they are supposed to connect to the web. How does this makes our country advance in any possible way ? In reality you people don't want our country to reach new heights and achieve great accomplishments by doing this. We live in an information age, where everything is digitalized and you want to restrict that so that rich can get more rich and poor become even more poor. Instead of this, you should increase the quality of the internet and its speed. I am having 60 kbps speed since 2008(first time we installed a broadband connection in our home) till now in 2015. 7 damn years and we still pay 1000 bucks for the same speed. How disappointing is that ? This makes me truly lose hope for our country. But there will be always a time for redemption for you guys so PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD FIX THESE PROBLEMS SO WE COMMON PEOPLE OF INDIA CAN USE THESE BASIC SERVICES TO ENHANCE OUR CAPABILITIES.

In the end please don't make me lose hope for this country and I do hope you guys will come up with a viable solution regarding this.

Your sincerely,

Kartik Sharma
