Hello,
Greetings of the Day,

This mail is regarding the support expressed for net neutrality.

Myself as a responsible citizen, i would like to bring to your notice about how subjecting OTTs to licensing and regulations will not only favor the telecoms but will as well ruin the Internet.

Firstly, subjecting the OTTs to licensing and regulations will affect the status class groups.

For Ex: Consider the case of a temple where there are two lines, one is the general line where you get to take the blessings of the deity with paying the standard amount whereas the second is for the VIP line where you get the same blessings of the same deity by paying more than the standard amount. This case if re-considered in the matter of net neutrality, with time the Internet industry will be only accessible by the powerful, rich status class groups.

Secondly, subjecting the OTTs to licensing and regulations will affect the freedom of speech.

For Ex: Just imagine a world where every word spoken is charged for. It will simply discriminate the right to speak, the same goes with supporting the greedy telecoms.

Thirdly, subjecting the OTTs to licensing and regulations will lead to paid prioritization.

For Ex: Consider an ISP, say Bharti Airtel and consider, there is a sale at Flipkart and Snapdeal. Flipkart pays Bharti Airtel to hasten the speed of their website and slow down the speed of Amazon making Flipkart generate more profits.

Fourth, subjecting the OTTs to licensing and regulations will lead to crony capitalism.

For Ex: Consider a CEO of a company having good relationship with government officials and second consider a start-up company who lacks this relationship with government officials. In this case, the CEO will be given the grants easily over the start-up company willing to get the same grant.

This debate is not about prices or costs. Let the cost of internet access be as low or as high as market forces and public policy will make it, but before everything else make sure that all data is treated equally and not differentiated.

I support the net neutrality and not greedy telecoms and would request you, TRAI to not regulate OTTs or bring any services under a license framework.
