Dear Sir/Madam,
You might be getting a lot of these mails and I am not sure how many of these are you going to read. So, in case you happen to read mine, I am going to keep it short so that you have the time and patience to read others too.
The internet is one of the only remain spheres where democracy is still alive. It is the place where people get to let their views out in the world, knowing that someone, in some corner of the world might stumble upon their words and that they will be heard. Struggling artists and businesses gain traction through social media. So many positive stories and results have come out of the global and national meeting of words and ideas.
The big service providers do not need to make extra money, they have more than 90% of the worlds population combined. The ones who need the money are the ones who use the internet to not only share voices but start their own businesses. By making net-usage more expensive is taking away that opportunity from them. The customers would have to pay more, the businesses have to spend more. In pure economical sense, this will be an assault on small entrepreneurs.
And there comes the other, more moral part. By making access to free internet dearer to the pocket, you will be taking away the opportunities to learn from people from humbler backgrounds, from small towns and smaller villages. This is injustice, this is unfair.
Stories coming out from the nation have been very dire in recent years. Please give us an occasion to cheer for the nation and for the international body to appreciate us something by. Keep the internet free, keep the internet censor-free. Let divergent voices meet in the light of fair freedom.
Regards,
Pallab Deb
