Hello,
This email is to inform you that I would like to pledge my support towards Net Neutrality in India. I request that the governing body take mine and crores of Indians' opinions in support of this matter into consideration and work towards setting up a system acceptable by the majority. Let us uphold the great institution of Democracy.
I would also like to offer my appreciation of the process you have setup of getting the public's opinion in this matter. This is a very welcome strategy and pays homage to the concept of democracy. Great work. I hope every department within the Indian governing body follow your footsteps.
To be more specific regarding Net Neutrality, I request that the following be considered:
- Maintain open and unrestricted access to every nook and corner of all types of networks, especially the Internet.
- Abolish the establishment of "fast" or "priority" or "complete access" lanes by all organizations private or public. All consumers must have open access to all sites/apps/utilities/others.
- Protect people's privacy by criminalizing spyware/malware/virus/other harmful type of software creation & deployment. Service providers should also be restricted from gathering sensitive/private information in exchange for service. They should be limited to Name, Address, Phone, Email, Payment information only.
- The govt. should be restricted from spying on people's personal lives unless there is reasonable proof of threat to national security. Collecting innocent citizens' personal and activity information should be illegal.
- Open access to the networks must include upholding citizens' basic rights of freedom of expression. Complete access must be maintained to social media for the individual. People should be able to exercise their right to voice opinions without penalty.
- The supposed loss of revenue to Telecom companies based on their restrictions to limit access to certain sites/apps/utilities/others should not dictate the need to establish laws that compromise net neutrality.
The Open Net allows for free and unrestricted communication between the citizens of the world. This allows for information sharing leading to education and awareness, a direct result of which is progress. An institution of authority must work to uphold and improve such a situation for the betterment of the world.
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Srikant Ramakrishnan
