This is the first government we've had in a very long time that has shown credible signs of having a backbone.
Let's keep it that way.
Do not give in to the telecom industry's demands. We are the youngest nation in the world (demographically) and we are not oblivious to the tactics of mobile phone operators. We have been marketed to our whole lives. We have the strongest, most accurate bullshit detectors you can think of.
A law from TRAI would effect an internet user very adversely. It will be the equivalent of charging him/her twice for using the same service - paying for internet + paying for OTT SPs (including VoIP)
Violating net neutrality will also constitute an indirect violation of freedom of speech.
Governments will no more need draconian laws to curb free speech. It can just ask the operators to make critical sites costly to access and also clamp down their speeds. Telcos that already have vested interests from the governments will happily oblige.
I don't want TRAI to regulate OTTs or bring any services under a license framework. TRAI should support net neutrality at all costs.
I will be writing you a follow up mail answering all the questions asked in your consultation paper.
Regards,
