The easiest way to explain:
What if your Electricity co. decides to charge you based on what AC,
TV, or any other electrical appliance that you use? Using a HDMI TV? 2x
the price. 1.5 Ton split AC? 1.5 times the cost. Internally its takes
the same price for them to deliver electricity to you, irrespective of
whether its a HDMI TV or a Split AC. But they just plan to rip you off
because they can. How would that be?
You get to part 1. No, don't charge me based on what appliance I use. Just charge for the Electricity units flowing through.
Is that foolproof? So let's say the Electricity man makes a note that
you have a LG TV in your home. So they go back and ask LG to pay up. If
LG doesn't pay up, they simply
reduce the voltage to my home.
Now my TV works but goes blank every few minutes. Unless LG pays up, I'm
not gonna be able to use it properly despite buying it. And LG is
indirectly gonna pass that charge on to me when I buy their product anyways.
So you get to part 2. Even if you don't charge me, don't
indirectly
charge me by differing quality of service for different Electrical
units. You should serve me all electrical units with the same quality.
Now apply that for the real Net. Don't charge me for what sites
(appliances) I access. And don't downgrade the service and demand the
site owner (manufacturer) to pay up. You treat every byte (electrical
unit) with same quality and same price.
That, my friends, is Net Neutrality, why its such a Big Deal and why you should care about it.
