Respected TRAI,
Recently, FCC ruled on the Net Neutrality agitation and FCC's open internet rules were adopted on 26th February, 2015 to protect the free expression and innovation on the internet. Such agitation is being made in India.
TSPs are making the case showing that their revenue on the VAS such as VoIP and SMS have significantly decreased. But the loss of revenue will not be a roadblock to the progress because it relatively very small to the total gain by TSPs. Implementing the OTT service regulation just for the sake of the revenue of VAS in not fair, it is not fair to implement it for any probable reason. OTT regulations are counter productive. Regulation will result in partial behaviour towards the services on the internet. An economically strong service, which would be willing to pay TSPs, will be favoured by the TSPs and will be better served. Such thing destroys the progressive competition in the market, which is most likely to result into the monopoly over the market by few. It takes away the freedom of choice and it makes it very difficult for the new services to enter the market. And already network services from the current TSPs are not up to the par in global comparison. Bharati Aritel has already started Airtel Zero, a service where companies that can afford to pay them get free access to customers. If that is not uncompetitive I
don't know what is.
In Netherlands, after the similar agitation, Net Neutrality laws have been implemented. Chile is another country where such laws exist. And as a consumer/end-user I too demand the laws which implement the Net Neutrality and transparency for the consumers/end-users.
As a citizen of Republic of India, I am glad that TRAI is asking for the opinions before allowing TSPs to regulate any OTT services. I am against any such regulations which will compromise the Net Neutrality. Internet should be open for all and everyone should be treated equally. Thank you.
