Sir,
This should be a straightforward decision to make. We are a country of people struggling with limited resources, the quality of which remains questionable. Air, water, food, of acceptable quality are hard to come by. Simply because of differential pricing.
Access to good quality information at a reasonable rate to a student, researcher and potential academician like me, remains one of the only pillars of strength that I can rely on . If I had to pay differential rates to access services that I deeply require, it would affect my work and my output. Projected on to a scale of 1*1000000, hypothetically, it could hamper many potentially important developments in research and development.
It goes without saying that a feature that remains free to us now, is a privilege. Every progress in a new direction should be an IMPROVEMENT in terms of convenience for users and the general population. This new ideology is one of the few that go against convenience. An innovation should be driven at enhancing a service, making it cheaper, easier to access, not more expensive and an experience INFERIOR to what we currently have.
Why are Indian telecom companies refusing to INNOVATE to make more money to pull themselves out of a difficult situation if such a situation exists. Why are we moving back instead of moving forward?
Do not let it happen . We depend on you heavily to protect our communication systems and our access to knowledge. TRAI is the one of the most powerful components of our democracy, and it should not let differential pricing of essential services to students, researchers and entrepreneurs drag our country back.
Thank you,
Sincerely,
