Dear TRAI,
I write this mail to express my deepest concerns against the planned actions of the telecom carriers. Their motives to restrict fair access to the internet and in essence dissolve the concept of Net Neutrality is completely unacceptable. I speak as a 25 year old budding entrepreneur with a startup product on the way. Being an avid internet user, I have learnt many of my trade's skills online. I owe a lot to the Internet of Today and would never want it to change.
I firmly believe the internet in its present form is an immeasurably vital resource — it helps us communicate, work, and thrive as a citizenry. If we allow telecom operators to discriminate internet traffic on the basis of what services pay the most, we essentially abolish the very reason why the internet has gone on to become the cornerstone of human communication today. An internet of this form shall lose that immaculate quality / power to provide precisely equal opportunity for each human individual who may use it for his or her growth. Allowing telcos to control such a revolutionary technological marvel means allowing them to define what information we view; what entertainment we access; and how our future companies innovate.
This is completely unfair and harms India’s long term role in the global market. I am fairly convinced that the growth of telecoms and the well-being of the internet can go hand-in-hand; in fact, we need only look around to realise that this has been happening comfortably all along. I ask for a framework set in the laws of our land to ensure long term and fair access for all internet services, regardless of size. I want my generation and those that come after me to have unfettered access to the Internet, with no telcos or ISPs having the ability to charge for specific services.
Please understand that the internet is akin to the backbone of global human interaction today. Such a resource is extremely indispensable to me and to every other Indian citizen. I would like to see it always in its true nature - i.e. free and protected under Net Neutrality to ensure fair and equal access for all and forever.
Regards,
