Dear Sir or Madam,

I write to you as a concerned citizen on the issue of preserving "Net Neutrality" in India. The internet is a free and open resource, especially for a well rounded education in India. I personally know of several students who cannot afford after-class tuitions who visit libraries and cyber cafes to refer to online study materials that are delivered in world class format, free of charge. (One example of such a facility is the Khan Academy's website, which I use regularly as well).

I fear that if Net Neutrality is surrendered to the Internet Service Providers, it would most certainly hamper the speeds at which certain important and free educational content is made available to students. Although my concern is primarily for the cause of online education, I am certain that the destruction of net neutrality will have several other detrimental consequences on a free society as large business houses would then be able to control the content and information that would be delivered without "buffering" to the populous at large.

With all these factors in mind, and in congruence with all the other concerned citizens of our nation, I request the honourable Telecom Regulatory Authority of India to prevent the hijacking of net neutrality by private enterprise. What I would suggest is, if ISP's want to recover their investments at a faster pace, let them feel free to increase the monthly charges for internet connections in urban areas, but not begin to "sell" bandwidths to web content producers who are able to pay for "faster internet lanes" so as to speak.

Thank you for considering this petition.

Kind regards,

Punarsheel Narasimhan
