Dear Madam/Sir,
I hope this email does not get lost in the deluge of mail you’re surely receiving on this subject.
I am writing to express my opinion on the proposed changes the TRAI are considering.
As I’m sure you’re aware, OTT services such as WhatsApp and Skype make use of the Internet to facilitate communication. The idea of imposing separate charges, or offering sweeter deals on using these services defeats the entire purpose of the Internet; a resource that should be open and accessible to all, not just those who are willing to pay a higher price.
On the other side of the coin, large telecom companies are complaining about their loss of revenue but this is minuscule to the upheaval it will cause if a person has no access to the Internet. The regulatory authority in the USA (FCC) has also passed legislation recognising the importance of a free and neutral Internet and has prevented similar legislation from proceeding any further.
I hope you will do your best to ensure that the Internet is protected from plutocratic corporations.
Thank you and kind regards
