Dear TRAI,
I live in the US, I know the public outcry and struggle people endured here to classify the internet as a basic commodity and to preserve the net neutrality. I saw folks come to the streets, in a nation which prides on its capitalistic viewpoints, to vote against companies dictating how information flows.
Needless to say, On February 26, 2015, the FCC ruled in favor of net neutrality by reclassifying broadband as a common carrier under Title II of the Communications Act of 1934 and Section 706 of the Telecommunications act of 1996.
Killing net neutrality would be detrimental to India in massive proportions, a sentiment shared by most people who have a grip on the pros/cons of this issue (this includes President Obama who was vocal in his condemnation against scrapping net neutrality).
Airtel/Vodafone/Reliance controlling the sites we browse may mean big bucks to multi-national companies like Facebook, Twitter but it would spell doom to the Indian entrepreneur coding in his basement to create the next Facebook.
Please understand that the internet is an important resource and vital to me and to every other Indian citizen. I would like to see it kept free and protected under Net Neutrality to ensure fair and equal access for all and forever.
Regards from an Indian who believes his voice must be heard,
Jainaveen
