Dear Sir,
This is to urge you to support Net Neutrality ref the OTT consultation paper http://www.trai.gov.in/WriteReaddata/ConsultationPaper/Document/OTT-CP-27032015.pdf
This is critical for the country:
1) The internet is in the nature of a public service today and is the great democratiser:
a) It's changing the fortunes of Indians by providing access to information & markets both...something denied socially or economically by vested interests for the past few generations
e.g. SMEs are able to sell products & book orders on e-commerce sites, while m-commerce provides solutions to distribute & track goods & send payments
e.g. Asymmetrical information led to exploitation in the past...with the penetration of mobile phone based internet...even special interest groups like workers & their families in smaller towns keep in touch over skype etc. & farmers access crop information & smaller regional tech entrepreurs make apps & content in vernacular languages forcing telcos MNCs to provide cheap vernacular handsets
2) The argument that profitability of Telcos is under threat cannot be made - the govt. is responsible to the consumers of India & the industry
a) This argument is anti-consumer obviously & anti-industry also as it chooses to protect an industry that refused to innovate in time at the cost of the consumer. Why did they not get their VAS options ready to compete with third party apps as they are starting to do belatedly.
b) The govt. is not responsible to manage the balance sheets & profitability of the telcos which are businesses not social service organisations.
3) TRAI should not let the telcos become big boss on what content can be consumed...they need to be bit pipelines only. These are private party interests with exptremely poor custimer service standards even right now.
