Dear TRAI,
I write, as so many have written already, as as concerned netizen. The actions of telecom companies today that disrupt the principles of net neutrality leave the future of India's internet murky.
As with our electoral politics - there is no such thing as a freebie. Be it in handing out bottles of booze to bribe voters using black or taxpayer money, or be it in offering free data services to select operators - it is the system at large which gets affected.
When Airtel provides exclusive free net access to select app operators it signs off as the first strike in breaking the net's neutrality. We can only expect the future to be bleaker if such companies are allowed to get away with this.
I am sure you are aware of the opposition to this move. As consumers we can but vote with our wallets - and I do not expect to continue to use Airtel's services following this.
But the TRAI is the bhagawan in this matter. Do strike a six for a neutral internet :)
Yours sincerely,
Varun Ramesh
