Dear Sir/Madam

I write to you as a concerned citizen, hoping to air my thoughts on the ongoing debate about net neutrality and attempt to convince you that one of the best things for the future of India's technological prowess will be to ensure that the internet stays neutral.

Given how useful access to the internet can be to someone in terms of gaining access to information - especially in this information age, it becomes imperative that access to the internet be available to every citizen in a manner that ensures an equitable distribution of information. Any attempts by a select few parties to jeopardize this arrangement will be hugely detrimental to our country as a whole. Access to the internet will soon become just as important as access to water, electricity and other resources considered as survival resources.

An example I can think of, to illustrate the importance of keeping the internet neutral is a village farmer's son/daughter using their parent's mobile phone with internet connectivity to learn about potential job opportunities in a big city, thus migrating there and potentially changing the lifestyle of the family going forward. This is a real example of real progress - one that our country needs, and which has been the premise of the new government's promises - development for all.

I sincerely hope you will listen to the masses of Indians chiming forth on this topic, and not bow to industry pressure. The time is now for us all to work towards the progress of our country as a whole and not allow crony capitalism to control India's destiny.

Thank you
Arjun Gopalakrishna
