Dear TRAI,

This is in response to the recent decision by telecom players to charge extra for OTT services like whatsapp, Skype, Viber, etc. as it’s hurting there revenues. There have been a complete editorials around it via this website & a national daily:

Recently, in USA too, the FCC has ruled in favour of Net Neutrality & has ordered the telecom players to not charge differently for OTT services by classifying internet as an utility, again. Here is the LINK to FCC’s ruling. Even Netherlands came forward after agitations over net neutrality & enacted laws to not let the telecom providers charge extra for OTT services & maintain same speed for all the services.

Allowing telecom players like Vodafone & Airtel to charge extra for OTT services is anti-development & telecom players shouldn’t pass on the burden of their loss of revenues via old means to customers by means of an un-constitutional use of Free Internet. It’s 2015 & telecom players should innovate to further improve their top lines & not resort to such measures which would further result in a disadvantage to the recent start-up culture that is taking shape in India.

I urge you to look into this & keep the internet, the way it is, equal for all.

Regards,
Ankit Sawant
