Hello,

Dear Indian Government, I am writing to express my concern against the actions telecom carriers are taking to restrict fair access to the internet (i.e. Net Neutrality) for all Indian Citizens.

India is  thriving and growing nation in many fields and the internet has proved to be one of the most vital resource - it helps  our citizens communicate, work, and thrive. If telecom operators are allowed to discriminate the flow of internet traffic solely on the basis of which services pay the most, you are allowing telecom companies control over a vital and necessary technological resource. one of the most important resource necessary to bring India out of proverty, rural illiteracy and poor communication.

Indian goverment is in danger of allowing Telecom companies to define what information the citizens can view; what entertainment they can access; and what companies can innovate. This is completely unfair and harms India's long term role as major player in the global market.

I understand Indian Goverment's concern that regulation may deter telecoms from expanding access and speeds, but that is not so. The growth of telecoms and the well-being of the internet can go hand-in-hand. You do not want regulation so strong as to stifle progress, but only a framework to ensure long term and fair access for all services regardless of size.

Please understand that the internet has become one of the most important resource and vital to your citizens across all income groups. I would like to see it protected under Net Neutrality to ensure fair and equal access for all our citizens.

Please Do not consider restricting the voice of your people. Do not cage them like that. They need freedom to express themselves , engage themselves in conversation and educate themselves with information . No other tool is better equipped to achieve this goal than Internet.

Net neutrality can be a complex issue for non-technical person, because the way it is phrased , it  confuses any non-technical person trying to understand the concept .

To give you example for any other utility like Internet. let us take National Highway  (ala of Information highway) and Toll Booths as example.

If a National highway was completely run by private company  and allowed to set its own  rules. The first thing the company will do is Keep Major Part of highway Open for Premium Cars like Jaguar/ Mercedes / BMW who can pay the Maximum TOLL TAX . It will  keep the small untidy pothole riddled part of highway for normal cheap cars like Maruti , Tata nano, Hyundai santro etc etc.

This will be completely unfair for majority of Indian public . Toll booths will be torn down and Nation will face huge disruption due to protest. This is exactly what you can avoid with Internet Information highway that is Internet. Keep it neutral regardless of What data/website/voip/message/picture that traffic is carry. Keep is same for everyone.

I hope this example gives you some perspective in Understanding this issue and clarify your views.

Sincerely,
Anshuman P Gholap.
