Sir/Madam
I am writing this letter to express my views on net neutrality. Its is imperative that telecom operators are not given the right to charge for data at variable rates determined by what we, the people, use it for.
The internet is a living and breathing organism, and is home to volumes of different content. To allow a third party(telecom operators) to tell us what to do online, what services of theirs we should use over online equivalents, is ludicrous. We would be effectively handicapping so many possible innovations and advancements. The telecom industry may get an initial surge in profit, but in the long term this will definitely harm the economy. Their monopoly would not end here. Starting with VOIP calling apps, they would move on to online messaging apps. What next? We'd depend upon them for our cricket scores and news as well. We would be given a tiny slice of the internet to use, and for everything else we would be at the mercy of these telecom operators.
As someone who has been struggling with limited internet connections(less data, low speeds, blocked sites) all my life, it would be painful to learn that the situation is only going to get worse. Please handle this situation with a just and open mind set.
Regards
Karthik Karanth
