Respected Sir,

I write to you as a stakeholder involved in the net neutrality debate. I do not represent a telecom company, but am a taxpaying citizen of India and a professional whose work depends on the Internet.

The Telecom companies are trying to subvert the basic premise of net neutrality. Today the Internet is a level playing field for everyone. When you get online, you can get heard, share your thoughts with the world, create things that help others. If telecom operators can discriminate internet traffic on the basis of which services pay the most, we are allowing telcos control over a vital technological resource.

There is a reason the Internet has revolutionized life across the globe and that is its inherently free nature. The problem is that with certain companies deciding what should or shouldn't the people get to see, it breaks down that premise. The rich companies with deep pockets can easily pay and get ahead of a small business trying to make a living.

We are only beginning to see the rise of entrepreneurship in India, and this move will be a unrecoverable setback to the businesses that depend on the Internet.

We need your support in ensuring that we are provided with affordable and reliable Internet connections that do not subvert the basic premise of net neutrality.

This issue will have a tremendous impact on the economy and growth of this nation. As a citizen and taxpayer of this country, I trust you to make the right decision for the people.

Regards,
Bhashkar Sharma
