- Q 2. Whether any fixed charge/rental can be levied by the service provider for providing national roaming services?
No fixed charge/rental in any form is permitted for accessing national roaming services.
- Q 3. What is Bill Shock, and how is it handled by service providers?
Bill Shock occurs when a subscriber's mobile bill spikes during its usage in foreign countries.
Every service provider shall ensure that the international mobile roaming service is inactive by default for all consumers and shall be activated only on the request of a consumer and once activated, it may be deactivated at any time on the request of the consumer.
Service providers are required to send alerts when charges reach specific thresholds (e.g., 50%, 75%, 100%) to avoid such situations.
- Q 4. How will I know if my International Roaming has been activated and what are the charges charged by operator?
Every service provider shall, immediately on activation of international mobile roaming service, provide to the consumer, through SMS, email and mobile application the following information
i. the fact of activation of international mobile roaming service; and
ii. the applicable tariff (if any) for the activation of international mobile roaming service (one-time charges as well as recurring charges as may be applicable).
